Is it possible to miss a person this much
When they are someone you have never known?
Is it possible to feel this magic touch
Of phantom fingers adrift across your own?
My friend and I are lovers
In the most innocent of ways.
Though they will never lie beneath my covers
I hope that they will always stay.
Through mystic fields we sometimes walk,
Hands held firmly, side by side.
We soar together yet do not talk,
For voices reach not across the Great Divide.
Is it possible to sing a crooning tale,
To someone you will never meet?
Is it possible to look beyond Death’s veil,
And not go mad from such a feat?

When they are someone you have never known?
Is it possible to feel this magic touch
Of phantom fingers adrift across your own?
My friend and I are lovers
In the most innocent of ways.
Though they will never lie beneath my covers
I hope that they will always stay.
Through mystic fields we sometimes walk,
Hands held firmly, side by side.
We soar together yet do not talk,
For voices reach not across the Great Divide.
Is it possible to sing a crooning tale,
To someone you will never meet?
Is it possible to look beyond Death’s veil,
And not go mad from such a feat?
I love the rhyme and the rhythm of this poem! Those things are (to me, at least) the hardest part of poetry that often feels shoe-horned in, but this feels so natural and almost like speaking!
ReplyDeleteAhh thank you so much!!! I usually struggle to get the rhymes right, (and most of the time it sounds solely as if I was writing solely for the sakes of rhyming). I'm getting better though, which is the most important thing! :D
DeleteHint: Ignore the rhyming. Trying to write good rhyming poems is like trying to write a novel: typically, you have to build up to it by starting with the smaller stuff
Delete(Though don't get me wrong, writing a good rhyming poem is much easier than writing a good novel)
That's good advice! Thanks
DeleteI have to agree, rhyming in poetry is extremely hard to do!
DeleteI LOVE this! I have to hand it to you, I'd want you on my blog as well! (Especially when I'm out of filler posts)
ReplyDeleteHaha, thank you! :D But three or four active blogs might be enough for me. XD
DeleteOh my gosh, I teared up reading this. I feel like everyone longs for that relationship that's pure and beautiful but is often not seen in today's world. You captured that perfectly and it's just... beautiful <3 The rhyming scheme is lovely and I think you have true talent in writing; beautiful piece!
