So, lately, my family has started rewatching every movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While I'm uncertain if this is going to be a trend, I know I'm for sure hooked on rewatching every MCU movie before Black Widow's release in May 2020. Bear in mind, further content will have spoilers!
"I Am Iron Man." -Tony Stark, Iron Man (2008)
Last night, I watched Iron Man. I've got to say, this is one of the better movies in the MCU, and it's one of the two MCU movies made before Disney purchased Marvel Studios.
In the movie, Tony Stark is a playboy and a weapons designer. His company earns billions building and selling weapons. As far as Stark is concerned, it's keeping the United States of America safe; it's protection. But after designing a new powerful missile called the Jericho, a group of terrorists assault his escort and takes him captive. The only way they're able to keep him alive from the attack is by hooking him up to some sort of battery that keeps his heart beating. They try to force him to build them a Jericho missile, and despite how he initially refuses, once he sees the amount of Stark Industries weapons they've acquired, he agrees.
Except, he doesn't build a Jericho. Instead, he builds a miniature arc reactor to replace the battery, and then he builds a suit of iron, equipped with heavy weapons, and fights his way out of the terrorist camp. Upon returning to the United States of America, he calls a press conference and declares that Stark Industries will no longer design weapons. After his associate Obadiah Stane has a little talk with him, Stark proceeds home. He delves into arc reactor tech, builds a more efficient one, and begins working on a suit of metal that will allow him to fly.
The terrorists Stark had fought, meanwhile, find the remains of the original Iron Man suit and take it back to camp, where Stane meets them. Stane kills the terrorists, takes the suit, and then forces his workers to work harder at building a mini arc reactor, telling them that Tony Stark managed to build one in a cave with a pile of scraps, so the tech definitely exists.
Shortly after weaponizing his brand new Iron Man suit and eliminating another group of terrorists, Stark comes face to face with Stane, who rips Stark's arc reactor out of his chest. Stark stumbles down to the basement and retrieves his old arc reactor in order to keep himself from dying. He then suits up and goes to confront Stane, who had been busy: Stane had build his own Iron Man suit. Stane's suit was bigger, tougher, and carried more gadgets.
Using various Iron Man suit faults he had discovered the hard way, Stark fought Stane. In the end, Stark barely managed to survive, and Stane had been defeated, and his suit destroyed. (I think destroyed, anyways.) The world begins suspecting Stark of being the Iron Man, and an agent of an organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. gives Stark and alibi to hide his identity. When Stark goes in front of the press conference, he says given the disaster of the last press conference, he was going to stick to the cards. Less than five minutes later, he sighed, put down the cards, and told the conference up front that he was, indeed, Iron Man.
End Credits Scene: Stark returns home and discovers his AI system, Jarvis, isn't working properly. He cautiously proceeds through the hall into the central room, where he finds a man standing at the window. The man mocks Stark's closing quote, and then asks if Stark thinks he's the only superhero in the world. Shortly after, the man identifies himself as Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and tells Stark of a S.H.I.E.L.D. project called the Avengers.

This is a really great movie! :) I don't think I've ever watched the end credits, though. Cool post.
ReplyDeletePretty much Rule #1 of Watching MCU Movies: Stay until the credits are done
DeleteI can't think of an MCU film that doesn't have an end-credits scene. Avengers: Endgame used to not have one, but they re-released it with an end-credits scene
