First off, a small speech on the makings of Incorrect Movie Reviews: I was watching Coco and I made a joke about the moral of the story, and this idea hit me.
WARNING: Spoilers present! This is a summary that gets the plot of the movie wrong, sort of how Honest Trailers do it, however spoilers may still be present.
The movie takes place in a town where music is life for everyone, except Miguel's family. The backstory is that a musician disappeared, and thus his wife hated him, and she passed that hatred onto her grandchildren and their children and then the children of those.
Yet Miguel, a bit cracked in the head, loved music, and thus sought to become a musician like his hero, "de la Cruz" (who was crushed by a giant bell). Believing de la Cruz would forgive him, he steals the musician's guitar from his tomb, as if no one would recognize that the guitar was missing, and no one would recognize the guitar he held in his hand as he played. Unfortunately, though, he's transported to the Land of the Dead, a place where no living person can visit, except those who steal guitars.
Suddenly, after a lot of legal documentation, learning that he cursed his family, and forcing the realm to be renamed "Land of the Mostly Dead", Miguel seeks de la Cruz, believing him to be his great- great-grandfather, in an effort to get his blessing to return to the Land of the Mostly Living. To do this, he denies the blessings from other family members he encounters and breaks the law countless times to find de la Cruz.
Finally, they come face to face, only to find Miguel's associate, Hector, was really murdered by de la Cruz in the real world. Then, de la Cruz turns around and traps Hector and Miguel both in a sinkhole, where Miguel realizes Hector is his great- great-grandfather, not de la Cruz. They heroically escape the sinkhole using a spirit guide and steal a photograph from de la Cruz, then use a flower pedal to return Miguel to the Land of the Mostly Living.
Immediately afterwards, Miguel continues stealing the guitar, runs home, and sings his great-grandma Coco a song her father had made for her, and she remembers everything and changes her family's ways to embrace music. This somehow saves Hector from dying in the Land of the Mostly Dead, and allows him to cross over the following year, though we won't mention the giant plot hole.
Moral of the story? Write songs for your children so when they're 100+ years old, they can remember you and fix all the mistakes the rest of their family made while you were dead.
This. Is. Hilaious!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't actually watched the movie, and never really plannned on doing so. I knew a bit of the plot, too.
I want to frame that moral. XD
Lol Thanks :D
DeleteIt's a pretty good movie, overall, though I only enjoy it for the twist, which isn't as cool when you know it lol
Oh, well. XD
DeleteYou should incorporate a like button for people like me too lazy to comment.
ReplyDeleteI tried at one point, but I removed it because no one really even noticed it, let alone used it, and then I was making a new blog with fewer gadgets, so...-shrug-
DeleteI'd use it, can you make a poll to add it? lol I'd really like such a feature.
DeleteI might add it again at some point -shrug- But right now, I don't know
