Serpent (Poem by Mark Swift)

This poem is a companion poem to Marysa Writes' poem "Lion"
><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
Among the weeds, and plants that grow,
A menace lurks, ready to strike.
Coiled and ready, with fangs of venom,
The Serpent lies in wait for prey.
But never does it rush straight
Like the Lion in its pursuits,
Instead relying on traps and bait.
And thus the Lion comes, its teeth bared,
It roars and howls and leaps forwards.
And just like that, the Lion's gone,
Swallowed in the hole the Serpent made.
Persistence rewards, and valor saves,
But beware the Serpent's cunning,
Which devours any and all.

  1. Okay, I was refreshing the page and then this shows up! 😁 Lol. Anyway, I really love this poem, Mark. It’s really descriptive, and I think this is now my favorite poem of yours. I love your descriptions and it flows really well. As always, awesome work on this piece.

    1. Lol Thanks!
You might be, but here's a strategy that almost always works in video games: wait, check the place out, consider where traps/snipers might be, and then when you know of the possible dangers, charge in with a manner that would allow you to adapt to these dangers. Then the only danger is what you cannot predict

  3. This is SO good! It describes a serpent and it's patterns perfectly, plus I love the way you wrote it and the order it's placed in. The descriptions are awesome too, it's like a story! Great piece! :D

    1. Which do you like better, the Lion or the Serpent? (Well, okay, Biblically, I know you'd like the Lion better, but when it comes to the poems in and of themselves, which one?)

  4. I like the imagery in this poem, its really good, Mark. :) When I first started reading it, I was reading with a symbolic eye. So, when I read the snake ate the lion, I was like, "Wait, what?!" And then I realized you were just describing the snake in the ways of nature, not in Biblical level. I got confused for a few seconds, that's all. Anyway, this was a good poem. (Though, on a Biblical level and in nature I like the Lion better. Snakes gross me out. And I heard of snakes eating alligators, but can it actually eat a lion? Those things got huge paws, that can crush a serpent's head.)

    1. But a serpent is a really large snake, so hypothetically, if the lion was caught offguard, yes. But, on a Biblical level, Jesus (well, the Holy Trinity in general, which is referenced as the Lion) cannot be caught offguard, so ultimately, Satan (called the Serpent more times in the Bible by his actual name, I think; could be wrong) cannot defeat Jesus

Would You Rather...? (#1)

These "Would You Rathers" are small, but they're meant to start debates. Debates, not arguments! Anyways, here's the first one: "In a mystery novel, would you rather have a friend by your side helping you while risking his/her own life... ...or would you rather have your friend safe at home counting on you to solve the mystery and come out safely?"

Nexus Mad Libs

I assume most of you are familiar with what Mad Libs are. Basically, you're given a bunch of blanks to fill in, and you do so without knowing what the story is. Each blank has a part of speech labeling it, and that blank needs something that fits the part of speech. For example: Adjective: ________ --> Adjective: Explosive In the end, we usually have a hilarious end result that makes no sense whatsoever. One example is this (which is a real result I got once with my siblings): "Another way to help you fall asleep faster is drinking a nuclear glass of warm vinegar ." First, let's go over some rules. Obviously, keep it family friendly. This still goes for all blog content. Do not submit two words in a row. Submit one, and when someone else does one, you may do another. Submit through comments. That'll make it easier for me to assemble the final result. The category is Medieval Heroes . Here are the blanks: Adjective: Constipated (Kyra) Per

This was bound to happen, like so much that the one that is probably next is I don't know... The Poet of Steel or Spitfire or Lady Knight, or just some other crazy. Plus, you guys know the drill. Mark's Addition : So...well...yeah, if anyone else wants to do one, let me know. Apparently, this is the thing to do on my blog right now, though I admit, I have no clue why.
