Inevitability (Poem by Mark Swift)

A thousand friends,
Won't solve loneliness,
A thousand doctors,
Can't cure pain.
Inevitability,
Won't give pardon,
Only bring fear,
And freeze gain.
But there's always one,
Who understands,
Who wordlessly speaks.
They are the ocean,
Proud and free,
Who saves you from,
Inevitability.
-To a Silent
Friend In Whom
My Trust is Found

  1. WELCOME BACK!!!!!
This is so great, btw. It really addresses everyone's quiet and personal self-doubts.
    Oooh! Is this about God??

      Thanks!
Well, not really. That does fit, actually, but it's not exactly who I'm addressing :) Actually, fun fact, you've met this person in real life

  2. Wow, Mark. I really love this poem. I think this is one of my favorites of yours right after your onion poem. I cracked up laughing from that one! I thought it was clever. Anyway, I liked the first few lines especially of this one:

    "A thousand friends,
    Won't solve loneliness,
    A thousand doctors,
    Can't cure pain."

That was a punch in the gut to me, that very realization. Overall, I really like how this in-depth poem was done, and it flows so smoothly. Another awesome poem. I enjoyed reading it.

    1. Lol Glad you like it so much!
And yeah, that was a punch in the gut for me, too, but I find it to be true; there are doctors, and pain coexists. There are friends, but it seems that can create as much loneliness as it fixes (like, if someone doesn't have friends, and sees a group of friends, they begin to feel lonely). This is probably one of my darkest poems, next to Broken

  3. As Lucy said, it was kind of a punch in the gut, like a stomach drop when you're on a roller coaster and go over the edge without seeing the ground under you and your stomach does a flip. It's really dark and it's like every line was written with this raw emotion. It's so so great to find that friend you can yourself around and who makes you feel loved, like you said, you could have tons of friend but feel lonely, but it takes that special one who you could really relate to and be true with. This is great, I loved this piece, it's an eye opener for sure, I feel tempted to chat my bestie to tell her how great of a friend she is rn XD

    2. Ha! True true, I'm a strong believe in every dark moment there is light, may be hard to see, but it's always there, and yes, the poem was dark and deep but there was light in it. :D

  4. This was raw, Mark. I enjoyed reading this immensely! The first four lines especially struck me. I'm glad I was finally able to have time to read your blog, it's beautifully constructed. Sorry I kinda lost contact with you. Also, Happy New Years! :)

And thanks, but this blog would have been so much cooler, but that particular design unfortunately compromised the ability to comment on the pages (such as discussion board, Q/A board, and others) :P
Lol I know (and know of) a TON of people who have become super busy, and even more people whom I've lost contact with, so don't worry about it! :D
      Happy New Years! :D

Would You Rather...? (#1)

These "Would You Rathers" are small, but they're meant to start debates. Debates, not arguments! Anyways, here's the first one: "In a mystery novel, would you rather have a friend by your side helping you while risking his/her own life... ...or would you rather have your friend safe at home counting on you to solve the mystery and come out safely?"

Nexus Mad Libs

I assume most of you are familiar with what Mad Libs are. Basically, you're given a bunch of blanks to fill in, and you do so without knowing what the story is. Each blank has a part of speech labeling it, and that blank needs something that fits the part of speech. For example: Adjective: ________ --> Adjective: Explosive In the end, we usually have a hilarious end result that makes no sense whatsoever. One example is this (which is a real result I got once with my siblings): "Another way to help you fall asleep faster is drinking a nuclear glass of warm vinegar ." First, let's go over some rules. Obviously, keep it family friendly. This still goes for all blog content. Do not submit two words in a row. Submit one, and when someone else does one, you may do another. Submit through comments. That'll make it easier for me to assemble the final result. The category is Medieval Heroes . Here are the blanks: Adjective: Constipated (Kyra) Per

Q/A With Shaly

This was bound to happen, like so much that the one that is probably next is I don't know... The Poet of Steel or Spitfire or Lady Knight, or just some other crazy. Plus, you guys know the drill. Mark's Addition : So...well...yeah, if anyone else wants to do one, let me know. Apparently, this is the thing to do on my blog right now, though I admit, I have no clue why.
