Brownies and Ice Cream (Poem by Mark Swift)

Brownies and Ice Cream,
The sweetest combination,
Fills my mouth with delight.
If it were human,
It would be your best friend,
But be careful because,
 like brownies and ice cream,
It's hot and cold,
Burning you while it
Freezes your mind.

  1. Yum! I've never have had those two together, but they sound absolutely delightful!
Huh, that's creative, naming the negative bits of those tasty treats if they were human. Man, a lot of your poems end on a dark note. XD

    1. They are amazing, but I'm serious with the comment of burning and freezing; fresh brownies (which are the best in the combination) combined with ice cream will completely shock your mouth, because of the two extremes
Not too many actually do. Broken does for sure, but many don't. Almost all of my poems have dark sections, though; I like the idea of starting dark and ending optimistic! :D

  2. I've had brownie fudge ice cream before and I thought that it was the best thing ever. Not anymore! Hehe. I have something new to try with actual fresh brownies, apparently. It sounds really delicious. Anyway, I really love this poem, maybe it's the food aspect, but something about this poem makes me think back to when I used to have holiday spirit (and I remember the special food and treats especially). Also, "Burning you while it Freezes your mind." made me think of brain freeze. Lol. Anyway, this was an excellent poem, Mark. It was awesome.

    1. Lol Yeah, "Freezes your mind" is a reference to a brain freeze; "Burning you" is a reference to when you eat something too hot and you become conscious of all your taste buds being fried. Both are unpleasant feelings I have every time I eat something cold or warm :P

    2. Ouch! Yeah, those are unpleasant feelings. I know that from experience as well. Lol. Actually, I thought the burning line could have also referenced brain freeze, since something so cold can "burn" the tongue (while the brain freeze is happening). But yeah, something really hot burning my taste buds... Gah, I can feel it right now. It's not something anyone can forget. Lol.

    3. That's true; the cold actually does burn
I might be able to forget it. Or might have. If I didn't burn it every night for almost a year lol

  3. Ha! I love this one, the light and airy feel into a darker meaning. Never tried brownies and ice cream, it sounds good though! Great piece!

    1. I grew up knowing of it as THE thing; the perfect dessert combo! And no one has heard of it? Lol

My Talent (Poem by Mark Borne)

Many places, I've come to know, People of different cultures, too; They all have their thing, Something that they can do, But not me, not yet, My talent has yet to show up. I write and write, plots And twists and poems and Even the rare favorite of The readers I've lured And ensnared in my blog. Yet deep inside, I force myself To write the words that meet The lines of text and thoughts. Then I turn to run, and Find the wind upon my face As I escape my life, But it always catches up, And the worries I face Distract me, making the Outside world obsolete. Even in reading, I find Myself buried in stories That show misfortune in the Lives of fictional characters, Directly only to do as they Were told by the writer. And yet, in stories there is a Beauty unmatched by reality, A world that eventually Results in kindness and Peace and excitement. And being in those worlds, If only for a mere moment, Is my hobby. If only I could Be the character in the ...

Nexus Mad Libs

I assume most of you are familiar with what Mad Libs are. Basically, you're given a bunch of blanks to fill in, and you do so without knowing what the story is. Each blank has a part of speech labeling it, and that blank needs something that fits the part of speech. For example: Adjective: ________ --> Adjective: Explosive In the end, we usually have a hilarious end result that makes no sense whatsoever. One example is this (which is a real result I got once with my siblings): "Another way to help you fall asleep faster is drinking a nuclear glass of warm vinegar ." First, let's go over some rules. Obviously, keep it family friendly. This still goes for all blog content. Do not submit two words in a row. Submit one, and when someone else does one, you may do another. Submit through comments. That'll make it easier for me to assemble the final result. The category is Medieval Heroes . Here are the blanks: Adjective: Constipated (Kyra) Per...
