āKyra, prepare to jettison all the escape pods,ā Han commanded. Kyra was itching to ask Han to clarify his plan, but as she saw that they were practically in the star destroyerās docking bay, she decided that this is a time for actions, not words.
Once Kyra was done prepping the pods Han ordered, āKyra, get in the hold,ā he pointed towards the scan-proof smuggling compartments, āChewie, load the spice into the escape pods.ā
Kyra, still not fully understanding Hanās scheme, crawled into the compartment. āJust hold tight.ā Han said, āYou might be stuck down there for a while.ā
āLetās just hope that these compartments do their job,ā he whispered to himself.
āAre you sure that the spice canāt fit down here?ā Kyra asked finally, knowing that it was worth a lot and Jabba would not be pleased if anything happens to it.
āNo,ā Han sighed, āthe spiceāll poison you.ā
She nodded. āRelease all the escape pods!ā called Han. The ship creaked as the rusty pods drifted out into space. A bright light shone as the Imperials used the pods as target practice, just as he hoped. Han took a deep breath to calm his wits as they landed into the Star Destroyer.
When they landed eight heavily armed stormtroopers following an Imperial officer approached the ship. The troopers wore shiny white plastoid armor and round bleached skull-like helmets with impractically small eyeholes and a scowl echoed into each helmetsā face.
The officer was garbed in a creamy-white sharply creased uniform and a rank indicator plaque which read that her she was a lieutenant. She had pale skin with small black soulless eyes on either side of a petite nose, blond, almost white hair brutally pulled back into a bun, and an oversized mouth drawn into an eternal frown, which comically made her resemble a stormtrooper.
Han Solo and Chewbacca walked down the gangplank of the Millennium Falcon and addressed the officer as respectfully as he could muster, āGreeting Lieutenantā¦ā
āMinn,ā she said in a harsh voice.
āLieutenant Minnā¦ā he continued less formally as he kissed her hand. She flushed a shade of red and backhanded Han across the face. Chewbacca growled, amused. āDo not treat your superiors that way, scum,ā scolded Minn angrily and then glared at Chewbacca, āWhat is this?ā
āThatās Chewbacca,ā Han said, massaging his face, pondering why he couldnāt meet a woman without them hitting him within five minutes, āmy co-pilot.ā Chewbacca saluted respectfully. āDonāt mock the Imperial Navy, Wookiee,ā hissed Lieutenant Minn, ānothing is stopping me from sending you to Kessel.ā Chewbacca growled a curse in Shyriiwook. āTroopers!ā commanded Lieutenant Minn, āHold these two⦠ruffians⦠as prisoners until you have searched the ship!ā
Four of the eight stormtroopers brutally searched Han Solo and Chewbacca in an undignified way and in the process removed a small arsenal from the two prisoners. Then the soldiers bound the pilotsā wrists behind their backs, then shoved them roughly to the ground. Han hoped his plan worked.
The remaining four troopers and Lieutenant Minn searched the Millennium Falcon, tossing all objects onto the floor and successfully being as disrespectful to everything possible. āNothing out of place Maāam,ā reported a stormtrooper.
āBring in the scanners,ā ordered Minn. Kyra was suddenly afraid. Two troopers left the ship to get the equipment while the remaining two guarded Minn. āI could fight and make a break for it,ā thought Kyra desperately, āor steal the Falcon. No. I wonāt run anymore. I have to trust Han, he knows what heās doing.ā
The two troopers returned carrying a bulky device and automatically began scanning the ship for spice. āNone found, Maāam,ā said one of the troopers.
āScan for Tibanna gas,ā frowned Minn.
The trooper scanned the ship once again and gave Minn the exact same report as before. āScan for life forms then!ā She hissed. The trooper began scanning the ship but stopped and stood for what seemed like eternity above Kyraās hiding place. āLieutenant,ā the stormtrooper said, āIām picking up strange signals over here.ā
'This was supposed to be scan-proof,ā fretted Kyra. Minn rushed over to the trooper and looked at the read-out of the search. āFool!ā spat Minn, āThereās no readings of life forms!ā
āThere must have been a malfunction, Maāam,ā The storm trooper replied.
āThere must have been a malfunction, Maāam,ā The storm trooper replied.
āI donāt want excuses, go fix it,ā Minn growled, ārelease the pilots, so they can be on their way.ā The troopers un-cuffed Han Solo and Chewbacca. Chewbacca stood up and growled ferociously at the troopers, then began to collect the weapons on the floor. Han stiffly hauled himself up, āCome on, Chewie, letās get off this dump.ā Chewbacca growled in agreement.
The couple swaggered to the gangplank of the falcon. Chewbacca went ahead and primed the engines while Han stayed behind. āSo long, Lieutenant Minn, itās been a pleasure to get to know you,ā winked Han.
āGet out of my sight,ā growled the disgusted officer, āI can arrest you for disrespect to the Empire.ā
āDonāt kid yourself,ā Han smirked, āyou donāt have the heart to do such a thing.ā He turned around and entered the Falcon. Within seconds the old freighter was exiting the airlock and entering the orbit of Tatooine. Once Kyra was certain they were out of the range of the Star Destroyer she leapt out of the compartment and into Hanās arms. āWhoa,ā Han chuckled, āno need to get exited.ā
āIt really did work, Han,ā she whispered, āThey didnāt find me!ā
āOf course they didnāt,ā grinned Han, āit was my plan after all.ā Chewbacca and Kyra both lovingly rolled their eyes. āLetās land this thing,ā Han said, āIāve got to somehow pay Jabba back for his spices.ā Han landed the ship right outside of Mos Eisley. The crew silently filed out of the Millennium Falcon into the warm, dry, desert climate. āThank you so much for taking me this far,ā breathed Kyra, struggling to see Han and Chewbaccaās faces in the dusk light. The sky was a large array of colors, varying from pale pink to bright red to deep blue. The twin suns barely peaked over the horizon as Kyra began to walk into Mos Eisley carting nothing more than a few credits, a blaster, and the clothes on her back. āWait,ā Han called out, his voice nearly getting lost in the pure expanse of the desert, āChewie and Iāve been thinking on how the Falcon has been getting harder to keep up with and how we might need a mechanic.ā Chewie growled quietly on how heād never been part of that conversation. Kyra stopped walking and turned around, āMechanic?ā she asked.
"Weāre referring to you,ā Han said, āyouāre talented with machines, and you need someone to put you under their wing.ā The suns finally laid to rest under the cover of the horizon. āLike I needed when I was your age,ā he added quietly.
Kyra rushed over to Han and gave him a kiss on his stubbly cheek. āI guess itās been worth it after all,ā teased Han. She grinned and gave Chewbacca a big hug. Then they walked back, hand in hand into the Millennium Falcon to get warm food. After the mealāwhich was full of joy and laughterāKyra wandered into the cockpit and reclined into the engineerās chair, recollecting on how for the first time in many months, she finally felt at homeā¦

To start off, I was not expecting that ending, but that's what makes it all the better. This was a well done chapter of what I assume serves as the conclusion of this short story piece. The dynamic, as I said, really developed wonderfully when both characters can empathize their pain with each other. It then leads to understanding between the question, 'Why are they like that?' Okay. I might be getting a little bit too into psychology with that, but it's sort of true. It's the basis on why Kyra is bold and therefore weary of others at the start. That's just my take on it. Anyway, this was a great chapter; I'm not exactly sure this is the ending, which is why I am just assuming that it is, but if so, I enjoyed the ride throughout each chapter. This was well done, overall. :)
ReplyDeleteReally? Everyone else that read my book new that twist. I'm glad it was a surprise. :)
DeleteAnd yes, it is the conclusion of this "episode".
I'm really excited that you love the dynamic. Your a pretty much spot on for your take of it.
It's just the beginning, though. The first book will have about 6 episodes.
I'm pretty oblivious sometimes, because in retrospect it was sort of alluded to with Kyra and Han gaining trust in each other. But, it added to the surprise element for me, so I'm glad to have experienced that.
DeleteYay! I can't wait for the next edition; I'll be on the lookout for when it's posted!
At the moment, I actually am working on episode 5. I skipped ahead. All I've got to do is go back and write the rest...XD
DeleteLol. That's cool! I think it's easier to do that since it can make writing the background or the first few chapters easier to visualize, and therefore plan. Anyway, I'm looking forward for what's next. :)
DeleteTrue. I mostly wrote it sense all my ideas were there. XD
DeleteI'm glad you're excited :)
