Six Word Story Contest Results

Round 1 had a TON of close calls, and likewise, Round 2 had me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating the end.

However, I must admit, Round 3 wasn't as close. A definite winner arose from the first vote.

Before I announce the true winner, I will first off say, if you lost, do not think you did poorly. There were many close calls in the first two rounds, and both of you (Gabby and Kyra) have managed to survive those close calls and make it to the grand finale. Both of you have put up good competition and ended up in the top two positions.

But like all great contests, there has to be a winner. And that winner...is...

Gabby!
"There's something better waiting for us."

Okay, I admit, it's harder to be dramatic when it's all written in an article, especially since apparently 50% of blog readers skim articles (I admit, I'm guilty of this. I skim unless something in particular catches my eye), but points for credit, right?

Anyways, I've compiled a list of the full results below. Enjoy!

1st Place: Gabby
2nd Place: Kyra
Round 2 Positions: Mark Borne, Your Mom*
Round 1 Positions: PoetofSteel, Shaly*

*Since in Rounds 1 and 2, we didn't really have an actual 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th place. Therefore, there are shared positions for those eliminated in those rounds.

    3. They weren't food enough though. But everyone else did better and that's all that matters! :D

    4. Yours were good, PoetofSteel! You and Gabby were both tied in the first round. I had to pick who would move on to Round 2, and Gabby (who I chose) ended up winning the entire competition. I have no doubt that, had I selected you instead, you'd have won over Kyra

Really, when it comes down to tournament style voting, it comes down to a mix of luck and skill

    5. I have no luck.
      I have no skill.
How was I supposed to win? :P
But Gabby was the better poet/writer which I'm ok with. I've never been as good with poetry/writing as the people around me, which is something I just got used to overtime. But I am glad Gabby won, she deserves it all!

    6. If you have no skill, how did you, in Round 1, tie with what ended up being the winning poem? Basically, in math, here it is:
      PoetofSteel = Gabby
      Gabby > Mark and Kyra
      PoetofSteel > Mark and Kyra
More or less, anyways. The point is, you did better against Gabby than anyone else who went up against her did

    7. She still the champion, and I give her props!
Lately, in terms of writing, I've gotten a reality check that I need to cash in. I've seen Lucy's work, and Lady Knights, and Krya, and Gabby, and Shaly, and you, and everyone! I'm just at the bottom of de pyramid.
But I expected it, and that's the key. I entered for fun, but chances are I wasn't gonna win.

    8. You're really not at the bottom of the pyramid. My work is focused primarily on humor. Anything I make unrelated to humor, I copy someone else's writing style -shrug-

Everyone else can say something similar. Everyone has a unique writing style, and that sets them apart. No one's really better than anyone else (kinda contradictory to the contest and my last comment on this post, but still), they just take different approaches

Now, do you like everyone else's work more than yours? Apparently! But I feel the same way about my poetry: I don't like my work, but I enjoy everyone else's! Most good authors/poets feel that way about their work

      Delete
    9. It depends whether I like my work or not, mostly based of other authors/poets thoughts on it. My opinion would be to biased for that kind of thing.

    10. Thank you all so much! <3 I apologize for the late reply, but I really really appreciate all the support and kindness <3
Also @thepoetofsteel, everyone's writing style is unique and different and honestly your pieces were awesome, don't doubt your capabilities! Everyone can improve in some field of their writing, (I know I certainly can, especially when it comes to formal writing xD) but being a writer doesn't mean you're perfect, it means you're learning to grow as not only a person but as an author as well. Your pieces are really good and I hope you realize/know that :) P.S thank you for the kind comments!

Would You Rather...? (#1)

These "Would You Rathers" are small, but they're meant to start debates. Debates, not arguments! Anyways, here's the first one: "In a mystery novel, would you rather have a friend by your side helping you while risking his/her own life... ...or would you rather have your friend safe at home counting on you to solve the mystery and come out safely?"

Nexus Mad Libs

I assume most of you are familiar with what Mad Libs are. Basically, you're given a bunch of blanks to fill in, and you do so without knowing what the story is. Each blank has a part of speech labeling it, and that blank needs something that fits the part of speech. For example: Adjective: ________ --> Adjective: Explosive In the end, we usually have a hilarious end result that makes no sense whatsoever. One example is this (which is a real result I got once with my siblings): "Another way to help you fall asleep faster is drinking a nuclear glass of warm vinegar ." First, let's go over some rules. Obviously, keep it family friendly. This still goes for all blog content. Do not submit two words in a row. Submit one, and when someone else does one, you may do another. Submit through comments. That'll make it easier for me to assemble the final result. The category is Medieval Heroes . Here are the blanks: Adjective: Constipated (Kyra) Per

Q/A With Shaly

This was bound to happen, like so much that the one that is probably next is I don't know... The Poet of Steel or Spitfire or Lady Knight, or just some other crazy. Plus, you guys know the drill. Mark's Addition : So...well...yeah, if anyone else wants to do one, let me know. Apparently, this is the thing to do on my blog right now, though I admit, I have no clue why.
